Bloom 2
The sun was shining this morning but that didnt stop the rain. Still, I figured I best open the shop, just to get used to running it. I decided to paint a slogan I came up with above the door, "Rain or Shine, Books are Here for You Anytime! The green looks a little to bright against the faded blue but that just means it stands out more. Hopefully no one minds me making the place my own.
Just as I was sitting back to admire my work I heard a splashing. I rushed over. These cold waters can be dangerous. A river rat had slipped and fallen in while trying to reach the shop. I pulled him out and brought him inside. I pulled a chair up to the fire and sat him down with a towel. He was pretty ashamed about the whole thing. Telling me he's sorry for causing a rukus. I told him its fine. I probably could've set out the bridge more carefully. I'm just glad I got him out safely. When he finally stops apologizing I find out he's here for a book! My first customer. He wants to be more confident and likeable. He feels like he ruins everything. Of course I knew just the thing. I grabed him a book that helped me through some rough teenage years. I left him to look it over when I heard the bell of the door.
A beetle pokes their antenae through. Their clothes are too flowy for the chill weather but to each his own. He doesnt say much, just meticulously looks through all the shelves. Their voice is raspy when they ask if I have any poetry. I discover that this shop is sorely lacking in that department. I told them, I'm not one for fancy words but I'll keep a lookout for them and better my collection. They left without another word. The next creature to come in is just as mysterious. They are dressed for the weather. I couldnt even see their face. Just like the beetle they examine all the shelves, but when I asked what they were looking for they just shook their hooded head and left.
I began mopping up where they dripped in the rain when the river rat came out of the back room and asked to be rang up. I sent him on his way, to get wet once again. I gave him a waxed cover for the book. A possum bumped into him in the doorway. She looked mighty frazzled. She moved about the store like a hurricane, picking things up, putting them down. Her tail even managed to knock a couple things down. In the end she settled on a book with a cover of a well muscled racoon overlooking a cliff, wind blowing through his fur. I truly hope she finds an escape in there.
