Bloom 3
The rain from yesterday's turned into hail. That doesnt bode well for people coming in. I decided to start a sale. Make the most of it. I've always liked working with my hands. I use up the rest of the paint from yesterday to make signs for the windows. I've seen "Free Consultation" signs so I figure it must do something good for business.
The thundering of the hail on this old roof about lulled me into sleep when the bell rang. This long legged stork strolled in like she owned the place. Since I'm on the river, she kinda does. The Riverstrider didnt waste time looking around for herself. She came right up to me and asked for anything on philosophy. As I'm finding the right shelf we get to talking about how much time she has to herself travelling up and down the river. There's such peace and quiet, but she said she would've gone mad if she didnt have big thoughts to think. I never thought much of philosophy, always seemed rather drab. But the way her eyes lit up had me feeling like maybe I'm missing out. Nothing caught her eye on my shelf but she was happy to give me a reccomendation. Maybe I can chat about it next time she visits.
I was just getting into the book when a wren bounced in. He said he's a basket weaver and asked if I could stock some of his wares. I dont have much space but for now, there's enough to let him leave a couple. He's just a young lad and he seemed proud of his work. Before he left he complimented my shawl. My grandma was quite the artist. She used to do crafts with me whenever we had time together. The shwal is a little worn but according to to the wren, very well made.
The day started to warm up near the end. I was able to open some windows and let in the post rain smells and sounds. With the warmth came a lovely older couple. I think I saw them at the festival the other day. They're half blind so they didnt recognize me. We chatted for a while about the local activites. Sadly, I wasnt much help as I'm new in town myself. But they didnt seem to mind. I thought about offering them a book or two but I doubt the print would've been large enough for them to read. They have been travelling this river for longer than I've been alive. They said the only home they ever needed was each other. Which was very precious n all, but not my thing. I'm sure they would've kept talking with me for ages so I had to gently shoo them out to close up shop with the promise of future conversations and reccomendations.
I must've forgotten to lock the door because as I was cleaning up, three more people filed in. First was the beetle from yesterday! They left pretty quickly when I told them I hadn't refreshed my collection just yet. An elderly mouse was helped in by a dripping river rat, the same one from yesterday. This time he was swimming on purpose he said. I had to tell him to go shake off outside so he didnt drip so much. While he did that I helped the mouse. She was looking for a childrens book to read aloud. I asked if it was for her grandkids but that struck a nerve and she got this sad look on her face when she said no. She left my store with that sadness and not even the sunshine made me feel better.
The river rat came in, names Jer, also looking for a childrens book. But this he was looking for one for his siblings. I found him a silly one about accepting your mistakes. I dont think he caught my hint but thats alright by me.
